Volkswagen Boosts Electric Transporter & Caravelle Range
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced a significant update to its electric e-Transporter and e-Caravelle models, delivering improved range, faster charging, and the introduction of an all-wheel drive option for the first time.
For 2026, both models benefit from a 13% increase in electric driving range, now offering up to 236 miles on a single charge. This improvement comes from an increase in usable battery capacity, which has risen from 64 kWh to approximately 70 kWh, making the vehicles even more practical for both business and passenger use.
Faster Charging, Less Downtime
Charging performance has also been enhanced. When connected to a 125 kW DC rapid charger, the updated battery can now charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes, reducing charging time by roughly 10 minutes compared to the previous version. A short 10-minute top-up can deliver up to 62 miles of additional range, helping operators minimise downtime.
All-Wheel Drive Arrives for Electric Transporter
From early 2026, the electric Transporter will be available with an optional 4Motion all-wheel drive system. This setup pairs the existing rear electric motor with an additional motor on the front axle, allowing intelligent torque distribution between the front and rear wheels.
Because the system is not mechanically linked, torque can be adjusted almost instantly depending on road conditions. This improves grip and control on wet roads, loose surfaces, and construction sites, making the electric Transporter a more capable option for demanding working environments.
The 4Motion system integrates with the vehicle’s electronic stability and traction control systems, helping manage oversteer and understeer while maintaining stability through corners and across changing surfaces.
Customers choosing the all-wheel drive option will be able to select from three power outputs:
- 100 kW
- 160 kW
- 210 kW
Pricing Update for the UK
Volkswagen has confirmed that the updates will result in a 0.7% price increase in the UK, attributed to battery component changes and specification enhancements. Revised pricing details are expected to be confirmed in the manufacturer’s next pricing update scheduled for 15 January.
